Edward Drinker Cope (1840-1897) was one of the most distinguished American scientists of the 19th century. The bulk of his work was in the fields of paleontology, zoology, geology and anatomy. Dr. Eleanor Slifer (1900-1986) was a faculty member in the Department of Zoology, University of Iowa and a member of the Entomology Department at the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia. Dr. Slifer’s groundbreaking work with insect chemoreceptors lead to over 100 published papers in professional journals.
